Got Junk Questions? MrJunk® Has The Real Answers. No Robots, No Nonsense.

The Most Common Junk Removal Questions From Missouri & Illinois Homeowners (And The Straight Answers You Actually Want)
Welcome to the FAQ headquarters, where we answer the questions you’re actually wondering about (and maybe a few you didn’t know you had). After 20+ years of hauling everything from mystery basement collections to hot tubs that somehow ended up on second floors, we’ve heard every question imaginable.
And a few that still keep us scratching our heads.
No phone trees. No corporate nonsense. Just straight answers from the people who actually do the work.
Whether you’re wondering if we’ll take that recliner that’s been holding up your garage wall since 2003, curious about pricing that won’t require a second mortgage, or just need to know if we can show up before your mother-in-law arrives for inspection, we’ve got you covered.
Still have a question we missed? Call us at (573) 886-JUNK for Columbia/Central Missouri, (314) 673-JUNK for St. Louis/St. Charles/Alton, IL, or check out our service areas to find your local team.
We actually answer the phone. And we actually know what we’re talking about.
General Junk Removal Questions
What is junk removal?
Professional crews come to your property, load up all the stuff you don’t want anymore, and haul it away so you don’t have to.
Think of us as the opposite of a moving company. Instead of carefully packing your belongings to take somewhere new, we’re carefully removing your unwanted items so they can find new homes through donation, recycling, or proper disposal. From single items like that exercise bike you’ve been avoiding eye contact with, to complete house cleanouts that transform cluttered spaces back into livable rooms.
What items do you take?
Almost everything—furniture, appliances, electronics, construction debris, yard waste, commercial equipment, and pretty much anything taking up space in your life.
The easier question might be what we don’t take (see below). We’ve hauled everything from piano graveyards to collections of vintage lawn equipment that somehow multiplied in garages across Missouri. Check out our complete Items We Take page for the full list.
Or just call us and ask. If we can’t take it, we’ll tell you exactly where you should go instead.
What items won’t you haul away?
We don’t take hazardous materials (paint, chemicals, asbestos), medical waste, live electrical items still wired into your house, or anything that requires specialized disposal permits.
We’re strong, but we’re not hazmat specialists. If it needs a protective suit to be handled safely, it’s probably outside our wheelhouse. We also skip items with active pest infestations; we handle junk, not wildlife relocations.
But here’s the good news: for most items we can’t take, we can point you toward the right disposal solution.
What if I’m not sure whether you’ll take something?
Call us or text a photo! We’d rather answer a “dumb” question than have you stressed about whether we can help.
Seriously, we’ve been asked about everything from hot air balloons (yes, we took it) to a collection of 47 coffee makers from one office. Apparently, every department had its own. If you’re on the fence, just ask.
The worst that happens is we say no and help you figure out where to take it instead.
Do you work with residential and commercial properties?
Absolutely both. We handle everything from cramped studio apartments to massive commercial warehouses.
Our residential services cover everything from single-item pickup to complete estate cleanouts. For commercial clients, we work with offices, retail stores, restaurants, property managers, and municipal facilities throughout Missouri and Illinois. We understand that business cleanouts often happen on tight timelines and require discretion.
We’ve got you covered.
What happens to my junk after you take it?
We donate what we can, recycle everything possible, and dispose of the rest responsibly at licensed facilities.
We’re not just dumping everything in a landfill and calling it a day. We maintain partnerships with local charities throughout our service areas, work with recycling facilities to process materials properly, and ensure hazardous items are disposed of according to regulations.
It’s part of our commitment to keeping Missouri and Illinois cleaner and greener.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, fully licensed and insured with background-checked crews.
We take this seriously because your property and peace of mind matter. We carry comprehensive liability insurance, workers’ compensation, and all required business licenses for every area we serve. Our team members are background-checked and uniformed professionals, not just whoever showed up with a truck that morning.
Insurance and licensing aren’t exciting topics, but they’re essential when you’re letting strangers into your property to remove heavy items.
How do I book a pickup?
Call us, text us, or fill out our online request form. We make scheduling as easy as everything else should be.
Most customers prefer calling or texting because they can get immediate answers and same-day scheduling. But if you’re more of a “fill out the form at 2 AM” person, our online booking works too.
We’ll get back to you quickly with scheduling options and pricing estimates.
Do I have to be home for the pickup?
Nope! As long as we can access the items and you’ve paid in advance, we can handle pickups when you’re not there.
Many customers prefer to be present, especially for larger cleanouts where decisions might need to be made. But if you’re dealing with a straightforward pickup of specific items, we can absolutely handle it while you’re at work, on vacation, or just avoiding the emotional trauma of watching your old furniture disappear forever.
Do you need to see the items before giving a quote?
For complex cleanouts, yes. For simple removals, we can often estimate over the phone or from photos.
Single items or small loads? Send us a photo, and we can usually give you a solid estimate. Whole basement cleanouts or estate situations? We prefer to see what we’re dealing with because these situations have too many variables to estimate accurately from descriptions alone.
Plus, we’ve learned that “just a few items” can mean very different things to different people.
Pricing & Payment
How much does junk removal cost?
Our pricing is based on volume, weight, and accessibility, but we always provide you with the total cost upfront before we start work.
Unlike companies that charge “by space in the truck” and surprise you with add-on fees, we provide one transparent price that includes labor, dump fees, and disposal costs. Most residential pickups range from simple single-item removal to full-house cleanouts, and we can give you a ballpark estimate over the phone or provide an exact quote on-site.
Do you charge by weight or volume?
We consider both volume and weight, plus factors like accessibility and disposal requirements, to give you one fair price.
A truck full of pillows costs differently than a truck full of concrete blocks, and we price accordingly. But you’ll know exactly what you’re paying before we touch anything.
No scales, no surprises, no “oops, that’s heavier than we thought” fees after we’ve already loaded your stuff.
Is your pricing upfront, or does it change on-site?
Upfront and firm. What we quote is what you pay, period.
After 20+ years, we’ve gotten pretty good at estimating costs accurately. If we quote you a price and then realize we underestimated, that’s our mistake, not your problem. The only time pricing might change is if you add items that weren’t part of the original estimate.
And we’ll discuss that with you before proceeding.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes, all estimates are completely free with no obligation to book.
We’ll come to your property, assess what needs to go, give you an honest quote, and leave you to think about it if you want. No pressure, no sales tactics, no “this price is only good for the next 20 minutes” nonsense.
Good estimates take a few minutes of our time, and that’s just part of providing good service.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash and checks. Simple, straightforward, no processing fees. We also offer VENMO for quick and easy digital payments.
We keep our payment options simple because our focus is on junk removal, not financial services. Cash is always appreciated, checks are fine with proper ID, and we can work out arrangements for commercial accounts or insurance situations when needed.
For commercial jobs, we understand the invoicing and timing of those payments and will work with you and your procedures.
Do you charge extra for stairs or awkward pickups?
Difficult access may affect pricing, but we’ll tell you about any accessibility fees upfront as part of your estimate.
Moving a couch from your living room is different than moving it from a third-floor walk-up apartment. Removing appliances from a basement with narrow stairs requires different planning than removing them from a garage.
We factor accessibility into our estimates so there are no surprises later.
Are there any hidden fees?
Nope. We believe in transparent pricing because hidden fees are annoying, and we don’t like being annoyed any more than you do.
What we quote includes everything—labor, transportation, disposal fees, dump costs, and even the gas to get to your location. The only “extra” fees might be for emergency service, holiday scheduling, or if you add items that weren’t part of the original estimate.
And we’ll discuss those upfront, not spring them on you afterward.
Do you provide certificates for tax write-offs?
For donated items, we can provide documentation of what was donated, but you’ll need to consult a tax professional about deduction values.
We can provide receipts showing what items were donated to which organizations, but determining tax-deductible values is between you and your accountant. Different items have different deduction guidelines. Plus, we aren’t the charity itself, and so we are unable to provide this.
We’re junk removal experts, not tax advisors.
Scheduling & Availability
How fast can I get a pickup?
Same-day service is often available, especially for straightforward pickups in our main service areas.
We understand that sometimes junk removal can’t wait. Whether you’re dealing with a moving deadline, preparing for guests, or just hit your breaking point with that cluttered garage, we try to accommodate urgent requests when possible.
Call us and we’ll let you know what we can do.
Do you offer same-day service?
Yes, based on crew availability and location. The Columbia and Lake Ozark areas typically have the most flexibility for same-day requests.
Same-day availability depends on what else we’ve got scheduled and where you’re located within our service areas. Urban areas like Columbia, Jefferson City, and St. Louis usually have better same-day options than more remote locations.
But we’ll always tell you honestly what we can do.
What if I need junk picked up at night or on the weekend?
We work seven days a week and can accommodate evening or weekend scheduling for most situations.
Our standard hours are business-friendly, but we understand that life happens on nights and weekends, too. Property managers dealing with tenant turnovers, families coordinating around work schedules, and emergency situations all get consideration for non-standard scheduling.
Can I schedule a pickup for a future date?
Absolutely. We can schedule weeks or even months in advance for planned projects.
Many customers prefer to schedule ahead for spring cleaning, moving preparation, or estate situations where timing is important. We’ll put you on the calendar and send reminders as your date approaches.
Planning ahead also gives us better flexibility to accommodate specific timing requests.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Just give us reasonable notice, and there’s no penalty. Life happens, and we get it.
We’d rather you reschedule than feel pressured to proceed when timing isn’t right. For same-day cancellations, we appreciate as much notice as possible since we might be able to help another customer who needs urgent service.
But we’re not going to charge you a fee for changing your mind.
How long does a typical pickup take?
Simple pickups take 30 minutes to an hour. Full cleanouts can take several hours or multiple visits.
Single items or small loads? We’re usually in and out pretty quickly. Whole garage cleanouts or estate situations? Plan on several hours, possibly spread across multiple visits if the scope is large.
We’ll give you a realistic timeframe during the estimate so you can plan accordingly.
What if I’m not ready when you arrive?
No problem. We can reschedule or wait a reasonable amount of time if you need to finish sorting items.
Life doesn’t always go according to schedule, and we understand that. If you need a few extra minutes to make final decisions about what goes and what stays, we’re patient. If you need to reschedule completely, that’s fine too.
We’d rather get it right than rush you through decisions.
Do you provide a time window Or an exact time?
Yes, we usually work with time windows rather than exact appointments.
Most of our scheduling uses time windows because the timing of junk removal can vary based on previous jobs, traffic, and project complexity. We’ll give you a heads-up call or text when we’re getting close to your location.
What if my project takes longer than expected?
We plan for variability and adjust on-site when projects are larger than anticipated.
Sometimes “cleaning out the basement” uncovers way more items than anyone expected. We’re flexible about adjusting scope and timing on-site, though larger changes might affect pricing. We’ll discuss any adjustments with you before proceeding.
Access & Logistics
What if I live in an apartment/condo with restricted access?
We work with building management to coordinate access, loading zones, and any building-specific requirements.
Apartment and condo removals often require advance coordination with property management for elevator reservations, loading zone access, or specific timing requirements. We’ve worked with building managers throughout our service areas and know how to navigate these logistics.
Can you remove items from storage units?
Yes, we handle storage unit cleanouts on a regular basis. We just need access to the facility and your unit.
Storage unit cleanouts are common, especially when people are downsizing or dealing with estate situations. We coordinate with storage facilities to ensure proper access and follow their rules for vehicle placement and item removal.
What if my items are in a basement/attic with narrow access?
We assess access challenges during estimates and bring appropriate equipment for tight spaces.
Narrow staircases, low ceilings, tight doorways—we’ve navigated all kinds of challenging access situations. Sometimes it means dismantling furniture, sometimes it requires special equipment or extra crew members.
We’ll evaluate access during the estimate and factor any special requirements into our pricing.
Do you bring tools to disassemble furniture?
Yes, we come equipped with the tools needed to disassemble furniture, playsets, and other items that won’t fit through doorways assembled.
We bring standard tools for most disassembly needs, screwdrivers, wrenches, and basic cutting tools for zip ties or hardware. For complex items or specialized equipment, we might coordinate with you about what tools are needed.
What if I need items removed from multiple locations?
We can coordinate multi-location pickups, although this may impact scheduling and pricing.
Some cleanouts involve multiple properties—storage units plus homes, or items at different family members’ houses. We can handle multi-location projects, although the logistics may require coordination regarding timing and travel between locations.
Can you work around security systems?
Yes, we can work around most residential and commercial security systems with proper coordination.
Many properties have security systems, cameras, or access controls that need to be considered during junk removal. We can coordinate with you or building management to ensure our work doesn’t interfere with security protocols.
Junk We Take
Do you take mattresses and box springs?
Yes, we handle mattress and box spring removal on a regular basis. They’re bulky, awkward, and we’ve got the equipment to handle them safely.
Mattresses are one of our most common requests because they’re impossible to fit in regular cars, and most people don’t own trucks. We remove them from homes, businesses, and rental properties, and we know how to get them out of tight spaces without damaging walls or doorframes.
What about old TVs and electronics?
We take all electronics and ensure they’re appropriately recycled according to e-waste regulations.
From ancient tube TVs that weigh more than modern refrigerators to current flat screens, computers, printers, and audio equipment, we handle all electronics responsibly. Many electronics contain materials that shouldn’t go to regular landfills, so we work with certified e-waste recyclers to ensure proper disposal.
Will you remove my hot tub?
Yes, hot tub removal is one of our specialties. We’ve removed them from backyards, decks, basements, and places that still puzzle us.
Hot tubs require specific equipment and techniques because they’re heavy, bulky, and often located in challenging spots. We drain them properly, coordinate with electricians if needed to disconnect utilities safely, and have the necessary tools to move them without destroying your property.
We’ve even removed hot tub shells from third-floor lakefront decks. Don’t ask how they got up there.
Do you pick up carpet or flooring?
Absolutely. We handle carpet, hardwood, tile, laminate, and pretty much any flooring material removal.
DIY flooring removal often generates more debris than people expect, and disposing of old flooring materials properly can be tricky. We handle everything from single-room carpet removal to complete flooring overhauls for commercial properties.
Can you take my refrigerator?
Yes, we handle refrigerator and freezer removal, including proper refrigerant disposal, as required by law.
Refrigerators and freezers contain refrigerants that require special handling, and we’re certified to handle these removals properly. Whether it’s a kitchen upgrade, basement cleanout, or commercial equipment replacement, we’ve got the certification and equipment needed.
What about old sheds or playsets?
We handle shed and playset removal, including dismantling when necessary.
Outdoor structures like sheds, playsets, gazebos, and similar items often require partial dismantling to be removed safely. We come equipped with the tools needed to take these apart systematically and remove all the pieces without leaving your yard looking like a construction zone.
Do you handle yard waste and storm debris?
Yes, we regularly handle yard waste, storm debris, and outdoor cleanup projects.
From routine yard cleanups to storm damage removal, we handle branches, leaves, damaged fencing, outdoor furniture, and debris removal. Missouri and Illinois weather keep us busy with storm cleanup, and we understand that these situations often need a quick response.
Can you remove construction debris?
Absolutely. We work with contractors and DIYers to handle construction and renovation debris removal.
Whether it’s a bathroom remodel, kitchen renovation, or major construction project, we handle debris removal for both professionals and homeowners. We understand construction timelines and can coordinate removal around your project schedule.
Do you take old paint, oil, or chemicals?
Yes, we handle some water-based and latex paint, along with everyday household chemicals. However, we don’t handle hazardous materials like lead paint, oil, unknown/unmarked chemicals, biohazard waste, medical facility waste, or similar substances that require special disposal permits.
These materials need specialized disposal through hazardous waste facilities, and we’re not licensed for hazmat handling. We can direct you to proper disposal locations in your area, including community hazardous waste collection events that many municipalities offer.
Can you help with garage sale leftovers?
Yes! Garage sale leftovers are a common request. We can haul away everything that didn’t sell.
Post-garage sale cleanup is one of our most satisfying services because it completely clears the deck after you’ve tried to sell what you could. We’ll take whatever’s left so you don’t have to drag it all back into storage or figure out individual disposal solutions.
What about restaurant equipment or medical devices?
We handle most commercial equipment removals, but medical devices may require specialized disposal, depending on their type. If you need old MRIs broken down, we’ve got you, but if you’re talking about old devices that were inside bodies, that could be another story.
Restaurant equipment, stoves, refrigeration, prep tables, dishwashers, we handle regularly for businesses upgrading or closing. Medical devices depend on the specific equipment and whether they require biohazard disposal protocols. We’ll evaluate each situation individually.
Junk We Don’t Take (And Why)
Why won’t you take Lead paint, Harmful chemicals, or Bio-Hazardous Medical Waste?
These materials require specialized disposal licenses and equipment that we don’t have. It’s a safety and legal issue, not us being difficult.
Hazardous materials disposal is heavily regulated for good reason; improper disposal can contaminate soil, water supplies, and pose health risks. We’re licensed for junk removal, not hazmat handling, and we stick to what we do well rather than risking safety or legal violations.
What happens if I leave something illegal or hazardous out?
We’ll politely refuse to take it and help you figure out proper disposal options.
We’re not going to lecture you or make a big deal about it, but we also can’t take items that would put our crews at risk or violate disposal regulations. Most people are unaware that certain items require special handling.
We’re happy to educate and point you toward proper disposal resources.
Can you recommend where to dispose of items you don’t take?
Absolutely. We maintain lists of disposal resources throughout our service areas, and we’re happy to share them.
At local hazardous waste facilities, electronics recycling centers, automotive disposal locations, and community collection events, we know where these resources are because we are asked about them regularly. If we can’t take something, we’ll help you find who can.
What if something is too dangerous or heavy?
We assess every situation for crew safety and may decline items that pose unreasonable risks.
We’re strong and experienced, but we’re not superhuman. Items that require specialized equipment, pose injury risks, or exceed safe lifting limits get declined for safety reasons.
We’d rather tell you upfront that something’s outside our scope than risk someone getting hurt trying to prove we can handle anything.
Do you ever buy items or pay for scrap metal?
No, we’re a removal service, not a purchasing operation. We don’t buy items or pay for scrap.
Some people ask if we purchase valuable items we’re removing, but we’re not in the buying business. We’re removal specialists focused on helping you clear your space. If you have items with significant value, we’d recommend selling them separately before scheduling removal.
Emergency & After-Hours Help
Can I call you in the middle of the night?
Yes, we answer 24/7, though whether we can come at 3 AM depends on what constitutes your emergency.
Our phone is answered by real people around the clock because true emergencies don’t follow business hours. Storm damage, water-related disasters, and urgent property management situations get priority for after-hours response.
Your broken recliner probably can wait until morning, but we’ll still answer and help you figure out the next steps.
What qualifies as a junk emergency?
Safety hazards, property access issues, urgent business operations, and time-sensitive real estate situations usually qualify as emergencies.
Storm debris blocking driveways, water-damaged items creating mold risks, property management crises affecting other tenants, or real estate closings with firm deadlines—these situations get emergency priority. General cleanouts and routine removals, while important to you, typically don’t require a middle-of-the-night response.
What’s your emergency response time?
For true emergencies, we aim for a same-day response when possible, often within a few hours during business days.
Emergency response depends on crew availability, weather conditions, and the nature of the emergency. We’re honest about timing; if we can’t get there on the same day, we’ll tell you when we can be there and help you figure out interim solutions if needed.
Is emergency pickup more expensive?
Emergency and after-hours service may include priority scheduling fees, but we’ll tell you exactly what it costs upfront.
True emergency service sometimes costs more because it disrupts normal scheduling and may require overtime for the crew. But we’re transparent about emergency pricing, no surprise “emergency fees” that appear after the work is done.
You’ll know the total cost before we start.
Can you help with storm cleanup ASAP?
Yes, we prioritize storm cleanup and weather-related emergencies throughout our service areas.
Missouri and Illinois weather can go from calm to chaos quickly, and we’ve learned to respond accordingly. We monitor weather forecasts, position crews strategically when possible, and prioritize storm cleanup requests.
Safety comes first, for our crews and customers, but we’re ready to help when conditions allow.
Business & Commercial Junk Removal
Do you offer junk removal for businesses?
Absolutely. We serve offices, retail stores, restaurants, warehouses, medical facilities, and pretty much any business that generates junk.
Commercial junk removal often involves different requirements than residential service—tighter timelines, after-hours scheduling, confidentiality considerations, and documentation needs. We understand business operations and work around your schedule to minimize disruption.
What industries do you serve?
We work with healthcare, hospitality, retail, office/corporate, property management, construction, municipal, and educational sectors.
Different industries have different needs; medical offices require HIPAA-compliant disposal, restaurants need grease-free equipment removal, schools work around academic calendars, and property managers need flexible scheduling for tenant turnovers. We adapt our service to match industry-specific requirements.
Can I set up recurring pickups?
Yes, we can establish regular service schedules for businesses that need ongoing junk removal support.
Many commercial clients prefer regular cleanouts rather than waiting for accumulation to become overwhelming. We can establish weekly, monthly, or quarterly service schedules tailored to your budget and operational requirements.
Property managers especially appreciate recurring service for multiple locations.
Do you work with property managers?
Property managers are some of our most valued commercial clients. We understand the unique challenges of managing multiple properties with varying tenant situations.
Tenant turnovers, eviction cleanouts, maintenance projects, and emergency situations—property management requires a junk removal partner who can respond quickly, work professionally, and handle sensitive situations with discretion. We’ve worked with property managers throughout our service areas for years.
Can you help with eviction cleanouts?
Yes, we handle eviction cleanouts for property managers and landlords, working within legal requirements and timelines.
Eviction situations require careful coordination with legal requirements and often involve significant amounts of items left behind. We work closely with property managers to ensure that eviction cleanouts are handled correctly, documented when necessary, and completed efficiently, allowing properties to be re-rented quickly.
Can you handle confidential document destruction?
We can coordinate document disposal, but we recommend using certified document destruction services for confidential materials.
While we can haul away boxes of documents for general disposal, truly confidential materials should go through certified document destruction services that provide certificates of destruction. We can recommend local services that specialize in secure document disposal when needed.
Do you work with contractors on job sites?
Yes, we coordinate with contractors for debris removal on construction and renovation projects.
Construction projects generate debris continuously, and we can schedule regular pickups or final cleanouts based on project timelines. We understand construction schedules and can work around other trades to provide debris removal when and where it’s needed.
Dumpster Rentals (Columbia Area Only)
Do you offer dumpsters?
Yes, but only in Columbia, Missouri, and the surrounding areas, and even Fulton. Dax’s Columbia operation offers dumpster rentals alongside junk removal services.
Dumpster rentals are perfect for larger projects where you want to handle loading yourself but need a convenient disposal solution. This service is currently available only in the Columbia area, but if you’re in other parts of Missouri or Illinois, we can handle most large cleanouts with our trucks and crews.
What size are your dumpsters?
Our Columbia location offers 20 Yard dumpster sizes to match your project needs, from small renovation projects to major cleanouts.
Dumpster size selection depends on your project scope; bathroom renovations need a different capacity than whole-house cleanouts. When you call our Columbia office at (573) 886-JUNK, we can help you determine the right size based on what you’re planning to dispose of.
How long can I keep it?
Rental periods are flexible based on your project timeline. Most customers need dumpsters for a few days to a couple of weeks.
We understand that projects don’t always go according to schedule, so we work with you to adjust the rental duration. Whether you need a quick weekend cleanout or an extended renovation project timeline, we can accommodate reasonable rental periods.
What can I put inside?
Most household and construction debris is okay, but hazardous materials, electronics, and appliances may require separate disposal.
Dumpster contents follow similar guidelines to our regular junk removal service—no hazardous materials, and certain items like appliances or electronics need special handling. We’ll give you clear guidelines about acceptable content when you rent from our Columbia location.
What if I need a second dumpster?
If your project generates more debris than expected, we can provide additional dumpsters or supplemental junk removal service.
Sometimes projects uncover more junk than anticipated. We’re looking at you, basement cleanouts. Our Columbia team can provide a second dumpster or dispatch a crew to handle overflow items, whichever option makes the most sense for your situation.
Note: Dumpster rentals are currently available only in Columbia, Missouri, and the surrounding areas. Customers in Lake Ozark, Jefferson City, St. Louis, St. Charles, and the Illinois areas can use our full-service junk removal for large projects.
Hoarding, Estate, & Sensitive Situations
Can you help with hoarding cleanup?
Yes, we approach hoarding situations with compassion, patience, and specialized training. We understand these cleanouts involve more than just junk removal.
Hoarding cleanup requires sensitivity, discretion, and often coordination with family members, healthcare providers, or social services. Our teams are trained to work respectfully in these situations, allowing time for decision-making and emotional processing that regular cleanouts don’t require.
Do you offer discreet service?
Absolutely. We understand that some cleanout situations are private matters, and we handle them with appropriate discretion.
Unmarked trucks, flexible scheduling to avoid neighborhood attention, and crews trained to work quietly and professionally—we can accommodate requests for discrete service when situations call for privacy and sensitivity.
What if the job is overwhelming?
We break overwhelming cleanouts into manageable phases and work at a pace that doesn’t add to your stress.
Large cleanouts can feel paralyzing, especially when they involve emotional circumstances. We can tackle projects room by room, priority area by priority area, or in whatever phases make the process manageable for families dealing with difficult transitions.
Do you work with senior transitions or estate cleanouts?
Senior transitions and estate cleanouts are among our most important services. We approach these situations with extra care and understanding.
Whether it’s helping seniors downsize for assisted living, adult children clearing parents’ homes, or families dealing with estate settlements, we understand that these cleanouts involve sorting through lifetime collections of memories. We work patiently, allow time for family members to identify items they want to keep, and coordinate donations when families want to honor their loved one’s charitable spirit.
What about items from divorce/separation situations?
We handle divorce and separation cleanouts with sensitivity and can work with legal requirements when necessary.
Divorce situations often involve specific items that need to be removed according to legal agreements or court orders. We can coordinate with attorneys, work around custody schedules, and handle these sensitive situations with appropriate discretion and professionalism.
Do you work with insurance companies directly?
Yes, we can work with insurance companies to handle damage-related cleanouts and provide the necessary documentation.
Storm damage, water damage, fire damage—we regularly work with insurance adjusters and can provide the documentation needed for claims processing. We understand insurance requirements and can coordinate directly with companies when that simplifies the process for customers.
Can you coordinate with estate sale companies?
Yes, we often work with estate sale companies to handle items remaining after sales conclude.
Estate sales typically leave behind items that didn’t sell, and we can coordinate timing to remove these items after the sales wrap up. We work with estate sale professionals throughout our service areas and understand the timing and coordination these situations require.
What if some items need to go to different family members?
Unfortunately, we do not coordinate the delivery of specific items to family members during estate cleanouts. We are a junk removal, disposal, and hauling services company, not movers or delivery personnel. So you will want to have someone on-site who can transport any items you like.
Weird But Real Questions
Can I ride in the truck?
No, insurance and safety regulations prohibit passengers in our work trucks. But you can follow us to the dump if you want to see where your stuff goes!
We’d love the company, but liability insurance doesn’t cover passengers, and work trucks aren’t equipped for passenger comfort anyway. If you’re curious about our disposal process, we’re happy to explain where everything goes and how we handle recycling and donations.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve hauled away?
We once removed a hot air balloon basket from someone’s garage. Apparently, it came with a house purchase, and the new owners had no idea what to do with it.
Over 20 years, we’ve seen collections of everything from vintage lawn mowers to life-size cardboard cutouts of celebrities. One memorable Columbia cleanout included 47 coffee makers from a single office; every department apparently had its own.
The stories could fill a book, and some probably shouldn’t be repeated in polite company.
Do you donate any of the stuff you take?
Yes! We donate usable items to local charities throughout our service areas whenever possible.
We maintain partnerships with the Salvation Army, Goodwill, local churches, and community organizations that help families in need. When families specifically request that items be donated, we coordinate with the charities they prefer.
It’s part of our commitment to keeping Missouri and Illinois cleaner and greener.
Can you sweep up after?
Yes, cleanup is included in our service. We leave your space cleaner than when we arrived.
Final cleanup is part of every job; we sweep, vacuum if needed, and remove any debris created during the removal process. You shouldn’t have to clean up after the cleanup crew.
We bring cleanup supplies and take pride in leaving properties in better condition than when we started.
Will you remove just one item?
Absolutely. Single-item removal is a significant part of our business.
Whether it’s one old refrigerator, a broken treadmill, or that recliner that’s become a permanent fixture in your garage, we handle single items regularly. Sometimes one item removal leads to “well, as long as you’re here” situations, but we’re happy to come for just one troublesome piece.
Do I need to bag or box everything?
Nope. We can handle loose items, though bagging or boxing sometimes makes the process more efficient.
We come equipped to handle items in whatever condition they’re in. Loose items, things scattered across rooms, items that need to be carried individually, we’ve got the manpower and equipment to handle it all.
If you want to bag small items for efficiency, great, but it’s not required.
What if my pets are protective of their space?
We’re experienced working around pets and can coordinate with you to keep animals comfortable during removal.
Many customers worry about how their pets will react to strangers removing items from their territory. We can work with you to secure pets in comfortable areas during removal, or schedule work when pets are out of the house if that works better for everyone involved.
What’s your policy on finding valuables in junk?
We’ll alert you immediately if we find anything that looks valuable mixed in with items you’re discarding.
Sometimes people accidentally include valuable items in junk piles, or forget about cash, jewelry, or important documents tucked away in furniture or boxes. When we find these items, we stop work and bring them to your attention immediately.
We’re honest folks, and we’d rather have you make an informed decision than wonder later if something important got hauled away.
Can you work around security systems?
Yes, we can work around most residential and commercial security systems with proper coordination.
Many properties have security systems, cameras, or access controls that need to be considered during junk removal. We can coordinate with you or building management to ensure our work doesn’t interfere with security protocols.
We’re also happy to work within camera view when that provides extra peace of mind.
How far in advance should I schedule?
For routine cleanouts, a few days to a week is usually fine. For busy seasons or large projects, more advance notice helps ensure your preferred timing.
Spring cleaning season, moving months (summer), and post-holiday cleanouts tend to be busier, so advance scheduling helps during those periods. Emergency situations get priority regardless of scheduling, but planned projects benefit from advance coordination.
What if I change my mind about items after you’ve loaded them?
If we haven’t left your property yet, we can unload items you want to keep. Once we’re gone, those items are considered disposed of.
Change your mind about that family heirloom hiding in the junk pile? Just speak up before we drive away, and we’ll retrieve it for you.
But once we’ve left your property, we can’t guarantee recovering specific items from mixed loads.
Do you work in bad weather?
We work in most weather conditions but prioritize crew safety. Ice storms, severe lightning, and dangerous wind conditions may cause delays.
Rain doesn’t stop us—we’ve got tarps and we’re used to working in less-than-perfect conditions. But truly dangerous weather that puts crews at risk will cause delays.
We monitor weather forecasts and communicate with customers about potential delays before they affect scheduled appointments.
Can you help me decide what to keep vs. what to remove?
We can offer a practical perspective, but personal decisions about keeping items should be yours or your family’s.
We’ve seen thousands of cleanouts and can offer insight into what typically gets kept versus removed, but we won’t pressure you to discard items that might have value to you. Our job is to remove what you decide needs to go, not to make those decisions for you.
What if my neighbors complain about the truck or the noise?
We work efficiently to minimize disruption and can coordinate timing to reduce neighborhood impact when possible.
Our trucks are clearly marked and professional-looking, we work during reasonable hours, and we clean up after ourselves. Most neighbors are understanding about occasional service vehicles, but if you have specific concerns about timing or noise, please let us know, and we’ll work with you to schedule accordingly.
Do you provide certificates or documentation for disposal?
Yes, we can provide documentation of disposal for commercial clients, insurance claims, or legal requirements when needed.
Property managers, businesses, and insurance situations often require proof of proper disposal. We maintain records of where items are disposed of, recycled, or donated and can provide appropriate documentation when required.
What happens if you accidentally damage something?
We carry comprehensive insurance and will address any damage issues promptly and professionally.
Accidents are rare because we’re experienced and careful, but when they happen, we take responsibility. Our insurance covers property damage, and we’ll work directly with you and insurance companies to resolve any issues quickly and fairly.
Can you work around my schedule?
Yes, we offer flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate work schedules and family commitments.
Many customers need service outside standard business hours, and we work with you to find a schedule that fits your life. Property managers often need after-hours service, families coordinate around work schedules, and some situations just work better with evening or weekend timing.
Still Have Questions?
Look, we’ve covered a lot of ground here, but every situation is different. If you’ve got a question we missed, a situation that seems unique, or you just want to talk through your specific cleanout needs, give us a call. We’ve been answering junk removal questions for over 20 years.
And we genuinely enjoy helping people figure out solutions.
Maybe your situation involves a combination of several services. Maybe you’re dealing with something we’ve never encountered before (unlikely, but possible). Maybe you just want to make sure we’re the right fit for your project before committing.
Whatever it is, we’d rather answer your questions up front than have you wondering if you made the right choice.
Some final thoughts:
We’re not going to oversell you on services you don’t need. We’re not going to pressure you into decisions you’re not ready to make. And we’re definitely not going to judge your junk situation, no matter how long it’s been accumulating or how creative your storage solutions have become.
We’ve seen it all. We’ve helped families through difficult transitions. We’ve rescued property managers from impossible situations. We’ve turned cluttered chaos into clean, organized spaces thousands of times.
Your junk removal project might feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.
