Bike, Moped & E-Bike Removal & Recycling Across Missouri & Illinois; If It Rolls, We Haul – MrJunk®
Local, Family-owned Crew Providing Bike, Moped, and E-bike Removal & Recycling across MO & IL Since 2005
Expert Bicycle, E-Bike, Moped, & Motorcycle Removal & Recycling In MO & IL
At MrJunk®, we’ve been hauling away two-wheeled bicycle dreams and flat-tire motor-bike nightmares since 2005. Whether it’s a single rusty Schwinn or an entire fleet of forgotten transportation, our teams across Missouri and Illinois handle bicycle removal with the same care we bring to every cleanup project.
Dax and his crew in Columbia have cleared bike collections that looked like a failed bicycle shop. Trevor’s team in Alton once removed twelve bikes from an apartment complex (and actually reunited two with owners who thought they’d been stolen). Chris and the Lake Ozark crew? They’ve hauled everything from pontoon-rigged bike racks to vintage tandems that hadn’t been pedaled since the early Obama years.
Ever opened your garage and wondered if bikes reproduce in dark corners? Because that’s the only way to explain how two bicycles somehow became seven, plus a scooter nobody remembers buying, and that e-bike your brother-in-law swore would “change your life” but mostly changed your storage situation.
Welcome to the bike graveyard most Missouri and Illinois garages are secretly hosting. From Columbia to Alton, from Lake of the Ozarks to St. Charles, we’ve seen them all: kids’ bikes with training wheels that outlasted the kids, beach cruisers that never saw a beach, mountain bikes that conquered nothing higher than a subdivision curb, and those ambitious exercise bikes that became really expensive clothing racks.
Types of Bicycles, Trykes & E-bikes We Remove
If it has wheels and you want it gone, we’ll probably take it.
Traditional Bicycles:
Kids’ bikes, adult bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, beach cruisers, BMX bikes, tandems, and those weird recumbent bikes that make everyone look like they’re piloting a spacecraft. Training wheels included, no judgment on how long those stayed on.
Tricycles of All Sizes:
Adult trikes (the kind seniors use for stability), kids’ trikes that have been outgrown, vintage Big Wheels, those Radio Flyer classics rusting in the shed, and even those little plastic Hot Wheels low-rider trikes that kids zoom around the driveway on. We’ve hauled away entire fleets of tricycles from families who went through multiple kids and somehow kept every single one.
E-Bikes and Electric Scooters:
As long as the batteries are safely disconnected and there’s no leaking fluid. We’ve handled everything from high-end electric mountain bikes to those grocery store e-scooters that promised to revolutionize your commute but mostly revolutionized your garage clutter. Electric unicycles, e-trikes, and those Segway-style personal transporters? Yep, we take those too.
Mopeds and Small Motorized Bikes:
Non-running mopeds, gas-powered scooters, and motorized bikes that haven’t started in years. As long as they’re drained of fuel and oil, we can haul them away. We’ve removed 50cc mopeds that were “great on gas” but terrible at staying running, and mo-peds that turned out to be more “no-ped.”
Motorcycles (With Clear Titles):
Non-running motorcycles, project bikes that never got finished, vintage bikes that have been garage ornaments for decades, and motorcycles that cost more to repair than they’re worth. As long as you have a clear title proving no liens, we can haul them away. We’ve removed everything from 1970s Honda CB750s that were “going to be restored someday” to modern sport bikes that met an unfortunate end. Fuel should be drained and batteries disconnected for safe transport.
Scooters and Alternative Wheels:
Kick scooters, Razor scooters, stand-up scooters, unicycles, hoverboards that hover about as well as a brick, and those one-wheeled contraptions that look like someone invented a unicycle for robots. If it’s got wheels and it’s not a car, we’ve probably hauled one before.
Bike Parts and Accessories:
Wheels, frames, pedals, seats, handlebars, chains, helmets, bike racks, and yes, even that collection of bike shorts you’ll never wear again. We once removed an entire garage wall’s worth of bike parts that the owner had been “meaning to organize” since 2019.
The Weird and Wonderful:
Vintage bikes, custom builds, bikes with more gadgets than a spy movie, cargo bikes built like small trucks, that tandem bike you bought for “romantic rides” but mostly used to argue about steering, and any other wheeled contraption that seemed like a good idea at the time.
Bike Pickup Stories from Columbia, Lake Ozark & Alton
- The Columbia Campus Clean-Out: Dax and his team were called to clear out a rental house near MU where four college roommates had accumulated seven bikes over two years. None of them matched, two were missing pedals, and one had been spray-painted gold for reasons nobody could remember. They also found a vintage e-bike that had been damaged in a small electrical fire, it took some creative problem-solving to safely remove the battery components, but we got it all cleared out safely.
- The Lake Ozark Vacation Home Purge: Chris’s crew got called to a lake house where the owner had been collecting “lake bikes” for guests. Over the course of five years, this had evolved into a shed filled with mismatched bikes, along with a custom-built bike rack engineered to fit on a pontoon boat. The engineering was impressive. The execution was… less so. We removed the whole collection, including the pontoon bike rack that never quite worked as intended.
- The Alton Apartment Complex Mystery: Trevor’s team handled what started as a simple bike removal but turned into a neighborhood reunion. They were hired to clear twelve abandoned bikes from an apartment complex storage area. Turns out, two of the “abandoned” bikes actually belonged to residents who thought they’d been stolen. We ended up returning those two to their rightful owners and properly disposing of the actual abandoned ones. Property management was thrilled, residents were happy, and we solved a mystery nobody knew existed.
- The St. Charles Family Purge: One family called because their three kids had outgrown their bikes, but they’d also somehow accumulated their friends’ old bikes, plus a tandem the parents bought during an optimistic phase of their marriage.
Junk Bike Pickup: The Emotional and Logistical Factors Nobody Talks About
Let’s be honest about why bikes end up cluttering garages and sheds across Missouri and Illinois. It’s not just about transportation, it’s about intentions, memories, and the gap between who we thought we’d become and who we actually are.
The pain points we hear all the time:
“I don’t want to list this for $20 and deal with strangers coming to my house.” Because selling bikes online means twenty “Is this still available?” messages, three no-shows, and one person who shows up, looks at your bike, and offers you $5 cash.
“It’s rusty and ugly, but I feel weird just throwing it away.” Because even a beat-up bike feels too valuable to just toss, but also too much work to properly dispose of.
“I can’t lift it by myself, and I definitely can’t fit it in my car.” Bikes are awkward. They’re heavier than they look, they have pointy parts that scratch everything, and they never fit in vehicles the way you think they will.
“My HOA says it has to be gone by Friday.” Property management deadlines don’t care about your emotional attachment to that motorbike repair you’ve been working on.
The decision drivers that finally make people call us:
Major garage or shed cleanouts where the bike is just part of a bigger decluttering project. Moving situations where you’re looking at the bike thinking, “Am I really going to pay to move this thing I haven’t ridden in three years?” Kids growing up and leaving bikes behind like they’re shedding skin. Upgrading to new gear and realizing you now have two bikes but only one rider.
Old Bike Frame Recycling & Our Environmental Commitment
Here’s what happens to your bikes after we haul them away, because we know some of you are wondering if we dump everything at the nearest landfill and call it a day.
- Usable bikes get a second life. We collaborate with local bike shops, community organizations, and charities that refurbish bikes for families in need of reliable transportation. That kids’ bike your child outgrew? It might end up helping another kid get to school. That cruiser you rode twice? Someone else might actually take it to the beach.
- Scrap metal bikes get properly recycled. Even rusty, broken bikes have value in their metal components. Aluminum frames, steel parts, and chains; all get sorted and sent to recycling facilities that can process them correctly.
- Lithium batteries and electronic components get special handling. E-bikes and electric scooters contain materials that require specialized disposal. We work with certified facilities that can safely process these components without creating environmental hazards.
- We minimize landfill impact wherever possible. Our goal is to keep as much material as possible out of landfills. We’ll even detach parts and sort components for you, wheels to one pile, frames to another, accessories to a third.
Sometimes we find bikes that are in better shape than the owner thought. We’ve convinced people to keep bikes that just needed a little air in the tires or a quick tune-up. But when it’s truly time to say goodbye, we make sure your bike’s final journey is handled responsibly.
Garage Bike Clutter Cleanout: Other Items We Handle While We’re There
If you’re calling us about bike removal, chances are you’ve got other stuff cluttering up your space. Here’s what else we can tackle while we’re already there with the truck:
- Lawn Equipment That’s Seen Better Days: That push mower that’s more rust than metal, the weed trimmer that trimmed its last weed in 2019, or the leaf blower that mostly just blows dust around. We handle all types of yard equipment removal.
- Exercise Equipment You’re Not Using: Treadmills, ellipticals, weight benches, and that Bowflex that was going to transform your life but mostly transformed your spare room into a storage area. We’re experts at getting bulky exercise equipment out of tight spaces.
- Patio Furniture Past Its Prime: Rusty outdoor furniture, umbrellas with more holes than fabric, and grills that grill about as well as a campfire. We clear out entire patios and outdoor spaces.
- Garage and Shed Cleanouts: If the bike removal turns into “while you’re here, could you also take…,” we’re ready for full garage or shed cleanouts. We’ve cleared spaces so thoroughly that homeowners forgot they had that much room.
- Tools and Power Equipment: Old power tools, hand tools, workshop equipment, and gadgets that seemed essential when you bought them but haven’t been touched in years.
- The Random Stuff: Holiday decorations, sports equipment, camping gear, and all those items that don’t fit into neat categories but somehow accumulate in storage spaces.
